THE ROLE OF ENGLISH LOANWORDS
IN MODERN RUSSIAN LANGUAGE
Abstract: the paper examines the meaning of borrowing words from the English language and their impact on various spheres of human life. The reasons that explain the use of foreign words in colloquial speech are revealed.
Keywords: Anglicism, borrowing, colloquial environment, modern language, Russian language.
In recent years the influx of English words into other languages has increased. Russian language is no exception. It is known that the critic of the Russian language V. G. Belinsky was convinced that "each era is marked by an influx of foreign words, that this will not end soon, that acquaintance with new ideas developed in another country will always lead to new words". In different time periods words that seem to be “the most Russian” today once penetrated into Russian language from German, French, Turkish these are ‘караул’, ‘казна’, ‘сундук’, ‘бутерброд’, ‘процент’, ‘акция’, ‘браслет’, ‘пьеса’, ‘этаж’, ‘балет’ etc. In this article we would like to dwell on anglicisms, which have a significant impact on the Russian language vocabulary to this day.
Anglicisms are being introduced into all spheres of our life, from everyday life to politics. This is caused by the following reasons:
From the point of view of human development, it can be noted that if a speaker skillfully uses loanwords, but at the same time knows the meaning in his native language, then it is possible to judge the erudition of the speaker [3]. But depending on the audience of listeners, it is necessary to be more selective in the conversation.
If we talk about borrowing words in terms of vocabulary replenishment, then this is a fairly effective way not only of compact communication, but also of learning a foreign language [4-5].
Summing up, we can say that the use of anglicisms in colloquial speech takes place, because a person who owns a large vocabulary has great advantages in talking with an interlocutor. As I. I. Ogienko said: "Borrowing is one of the most important factors in the development of any cultural language". In the official style, and in particular in documents, the authors consider the use of borrowed words unacceptable, because the linguistic sovereignty of the state is violated. Moreover, the abundance of foreign language vocabulary causes an aggravation of the fight against borrowing.
